Find the all possible values of α such that point P( α , α ) is outside the parabola y = x 2 + x + 1 and inside the circle x 2 + y 2 = 50.
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
D
y = x 2 + x + 1
Point is outside parabola
∴ P( α , – α ) > 0 ⇒ α 2 + α + 1 + α > 0 ⇒ ( α + 1) 2 > 0 ⇒ α ∈ R
and α 2 + α 2 < 50 ⇒ α ∈ (–5, 5)
